2012                Co-organizer of a one day workshop titled “The workshop on Morality: An interdisciplinary field linking the brain, behavior, and society,” sponsored by the Graduate School at the University of Maryland and the Developmental Science Field Committee.

 

2012                Data analyst for CNN AC360 a show that aired April 2 – 8th, 2012, entitled “Kids on Race: The Hidden Story.” The University of Maryland lab research team led by Melanie Killen was commissioned by Anderson Cooper to examine children’s attitudes and friend and parental expectations about interracial peer encounters. Responsibilities included statistical analyses and report (N = 145, 6 and 13 year olds). Associate Executive Producers, Kerry Rubin & Chuck Haddad, CNN America, Inc., One Time Warner Center, New York City. Won an Emmy award for Outstanding News Analysis and Discussion, October 1, 2013.

 

2011                Member, Faculty Search Committee, Social Cognitive Development area. Selected as the graduate student member of a tenure-track search committee for two assistant professor positions, one in the area of social cognitive development and the second position in the area of educational psychology. Attended all meetings with voting privileges.

 

2010                Invited by the policy office of the Society for Research in Child Development professional organization to present a poster to the Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF) on Capitol Hill from the NSF project, with  Melanie Killen, for a meeting with senators and congressional staff on social science research funded projects (April 14, 2010, Washington, D.C.)

 

2008                Professional Development Coordinator, Human Development Graduate Student Organization of UMD, College Park, MD. Organized events for graduate students to promote services and tools that facilitate and advance students’ professional development.

 

2006                Youth Program Manager, Aley Youth Association, Aley, Lebanon. Managed and evaluated all student programs and activities. Activities focused on student capacity building in community service initiatives, including educational sessions for orphans and environmental awareness workshops. Executed and administered a sixteen session media training series for 25 university students.

 

2005                Project Coordinator, Lebanese Youth Dialogue on Conflict Resolution, Beirut, Lebanon. Was part of a two-person coordination team for a project funded by the European Union in collaboration with the Office of the Minister of State for Administrative Reform. Worked with university students to dissipate friction and tension amongst Lebanese youth through team building activities and common experiences.

 

2000 – 2002    Content Specialist in Mathematics, Excellence in Teaching Education Institute (JHU), Baltimore, MD. Worked with Chair of Mathematical Sciences Department to develop criteria to identify ideal high school math teacher. Developed and taught long-term methods to aid high school math teachers to fill mathematical content gaps.

Online Instructor, full teaching responsibilities for a distance education course for elementary school students. Instructed and tracked the progress of students in (ages 8-10 years). Managed course content and instructed talented youth on optimal strategies for problem solving.
